Sara Morgan’s new album, Average Jane, has her breaking into the regional Billboard Heatseeker Chart and iTunes Top Country Album Chart. Her career as a recording artist and performing songwriter is garnering her critical acclaim. MusicRow magazine’s Robert K. Oermann described the album’s lead single, “The Boots” as “cleverly written and sung with spunk, moxie, and verve”.
Louisiana born, Arkansas bred and Kansas City based, Morgan has a soulful, crystalline vocal, a spirited quick wit and an endearing, authentic southern drawl. Morgan’s original songs are filled with lyrical stories of strength, loss, confidence, longing, vulnerability, and triumph — but the main theme woven throughout her new all original record is that of hope. “My goal as a songwriter is to create music that unifies people from every walk of life,” Morgan says. “It would be easy for me to be the knife – but I would rather be the stitches,” she adds when describing the themes in her songs.
Morgan, who names Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton as some of her earliest influences, intentionally infuses her songs with pedal steel because she loves “the traditional sound of classic country”. Her style, however, is a fresh step forward from the past. “You’ll be able to hear nods to Reba McEntire, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Boston, Alan Jackson, and even the Eagles here and there. They were just as influential as Loretta and Dolly,” she continues.
Morgan’s artistic presence can also be found outside the realm of country music. LA pop artist, Brianna, has recorded two of her compositions. Two original songs from Morgan’s Easy to Dream EP (“Already Wrecked” and “Walk Me Through”), along with her cover of “Moon River” were placed in the motion picture “Different Flowers” (2017), which appeared in theatres nationwide.
Morgan has opened for Ryan Adams, John Michael Montgomery, Rodney Crowell, Radney Foster, John McEuen, Hal Ketchum, Dallas Wayne, and many others. Previously recognized as Kansas City’s Best New Artist, Sara can be found touring this summer throughout the US and Europe.
