Assumptions
1
Enter your space size. Choose single measurement or Length × Width, then pick your unit — sq yards, sq meters, sq feet, or acres.
2
Pick a configuration that matches your event layout: Standing, Chairs only, Round tables, Rect tables, or a Combination of standing and seated zones.
3
Set density (for standing modes) — Comfortable for fairs and festivals, Standard for concerts, or Custom if you have a specific sq ft per person requirement.
4
Read results instantly. All three cards update live as you change any input.
Standing — General admission floor. Use density preset to control crowd tightness.
Chairs only — Theater or ceremony rows. Fixed at 10 sq ft per person including aisle.
Round tables — Banquet style. Choose 48", 60", or 72" diameter and guests per table. Shows how many tables fit and total seated count.
Rect tables — Banquet or classroom style in 6 ft or 8 ft lengths. Toggle one-side vs. both-sides seating for head-table or classroom arrangements.
Combination — Split your floor between a standing pit and a seated section. Use the slider to set zone percentages, then choose your seated format.
Usable area — Your total space minus 20% reserved for stage, sound wings, barricades, emergency paths, and exits. All capacity math is based on this number.
Total capacity — Estimated maximum persons for your chosen layout and density.
Detail card — Changes by mode: density (sq ft/person) for standing, table count for round/rect modes, and a standing/seated person split for combination mode.
Important: These are planning estimates. Your local fire marshal sets legally permitted occupancy — always verify before ticketing.
Floor & space
Usable floor ratio
80% of gross area. The remaining 20% is reserved for stage, sound wings, barricades, emergency egress paths, and ADA clearance.
Shape
Calculations assume a regular (rectangular) floor plan. Odd-shaped or multi-room venues will have a lower effective usable ratio.
Standing density
Comfortable
8 sq ft per person. Typical of fairs, festivals, and outdoor amphitheaters where movement and comfort matter.
Standard concert
6 sq ft per person. Industry norm for general admission indoor and outdoor concerts.
Chairs only
Per-seat footprint
10 sq ft per person, covering the chair itself plus row spacing and cross-aisle access per NFPA 101 life safety code.
Round tables
48" round
38 sq ft per table. Seats up to 6 comfortably. Footprint includes 18" chair pull-back on all sides plus shared aisle space.
60" round
50 sq ft per table. Industry standard banquet table. Seats 8 comfortably, up to 10 tight.
72" round
65 sq ft per table. Seats 10 comfortably. Common for large-format galas and award dinners.
Rectangular tables
6 ft banquet
48 sq ft per table (both sides). Seats 6. Includes 18" chair pull-back each side plus 36" aisle allowance.
8 ft banquet
60 sq ft per table (both sides). Seats 8. Most common rental banquet table in North America.
Classroom style
One-side seating only. Footprint reduced ~30% vs. banquet. Used for corporate and educational setups facing a stage.
One-side seating
Applies a 0.70 multiplier to sq ft footprint and halves the guest count. Used for head tables and panel configurations.
ADA-required accessible routes, companion seating, and sightline requirements are embedded in the 20% floor reserve estimate and not individually calculated.
Authority
All outputs are planning estimates only. Permitted occupancy is determined by the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) — typically the fire marshal.
