“Honky-Grass” is Phineus Reb’s unique sound of Jazzy/Bluegrass/Rockin/Honky-Tonk blend of music.
A mixture of rocking guitars, harmonica, banjo, drums and killer harmony vocals make for a fun, foot stomping blend of East Texas Tonkin Tunes with a bluegrass flavor. PHINEUS REB came to be in December of 2014, when Cody Kouba, Aaron Notgrass, Dan Payne and Chip Oliphant, put their amplifiers/ heads together and breathed the “REB” to life.
Their first single “You can go to Hell (I’ll go to Texas)” hit radio in October of 2016. Their first album, Phineus Reb Awakening, has been well received by and was submitted for a 2017 Grammy by Sugarhill Studios.
Cody Kouba (Vocals, Guitar, Banjo) Lead singer, songwriter has been turning heads in Texas Music since 1998. In August Cody won the Hard Rock Cafe’s Next Big Star competition. It was no ordinary battle of the bands, though; the prize was an opening gig in front of 60,000 fans opening for country music superstar Kenny Chesney at Reliant Stadium the next night.
Aaron Notgrass (Drums/Vocal) has played professionally and toured with many traveling and local acts. His roots and talents seemed to fit the part for the PHINEUS REB. Dan Payne (Bass/ Harmonica/ Vocals) our bass/ blues harp man is all soul, singing and bringing his own blend of high energy simplicity to the stage. Chip Oliphant (Lead Guitar/Songwriter/vocals) with his unbridled and articulate display of character and taste on his guitar added an essential asset of contrasting artistry to the sound that is the REB.
The addition of Pat Matula with his fiddle-playing magic added the spark that took Phineus Reb to the next level. Pat is well known and has played with a number of sought-after bands.
Their unique brand of Honky-Grass music makes for a great, fun show for any audience and venue.
