In a career spanning over four decades, Jaime DeAnda has solidified his place as a master of the accordion and an innovator of the modern Tejano accordion style. Now Jaime takes a monumental step in his musical journey with the release of his first-ever solo album, ‘Volando Solo,’ under the banner of NextGen Latinx Records. ‘Volando Solo’ is a testament to Jaime’s rich musical heritage, showcasing his roots, influences, and unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of the Tejano genre. With each track, Jaime invites listeners on a captivating sonic journey that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation. The album’s lead single, “Dulce Para Amar,” was one of the first tracks unveiled to radio audiences offering a taste of what’s to come from this groundbreaking release. Jaime praises the leadership of Chente Barrera, who also collaborated with Jaime on “Dulce Para Amar.” Chente not only produced the album, but appears as a special guest on drums, percussion, and back-up vocals. The album was meticulously crafted at 45HQ Studios under the expert guidance of Grammy Award winner John Ontiveros, ensuring a polished and dynamic sound that captivates from the first note to the last. Speaking about his solo debut and partnership with NextGen Latinx Records, Jaime expressed his excitement, stating, “This album represents a new chapter in musical journey, and I am thrilled to share it with the world.” He then continues, “Joining forces with NextGen Latinx Records has been an incredible experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue evolving and innovating with Tejano music. “NextGen Latinx Records CEO and La 45 lead vocalist Mike Torres III expressed his excitement saying, “As a longtime fan of Jaime, it’s an honor to welcome him to our family. We believe in Jaime’s musical legacy, and we are thrilled to support and be a part of his future.” Jaime’s band members have also played a crucial part in the album’s success, not only with their musicianship, but giving Jaime that energy he can feed off on. The group includes Stevie Ray Vavages on bajo sexto and bass guitar; John H. Ramirez on bass guitar and back-up vocals; and Joey Jimenez on drums. As a founding member of the legendary group Jaime y Los Chamacos, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the modern Tejano sound. Who can forget the classics like “Mi Musica Favoritas,” “Como Te Llamas Paloma.” “Yolanda,” “Un Complejo” and “Ex Novia,”, “Tres Veces Te Engane,” “Paloma Negra,” and many more. In 2018, Jaime decided to embark on a solo career. There were some rough spots on that road; first the COVID pandemic in 2020 that put the world at a pause, then on December 2021 Jaime was hospitalized with a near deadly respiratory infection. But after a couple of months of recovery and with COVID subsiding, Jaime started making stage appearances and fans were glad to see him again. Ever since Jaime started learning the accordion at age eight, he was groomed by his father, Raul DeAnda, who had the original Chamacos back in 1978. After his father retired, Jaime I was given the baton to go forward with Jaime y Los Chamacos in 1987.After numerous albums and chart-topping hits, the group earned numerous awards, such as 2016 Tejano Music Awards Album of the Year for ‘Born to Be Bad,’ 1995 TMA Award to Instrumental of the Year for “El Tren,” and a 1994 TMA Award for Traditional Album of the Year ‘Unrivaled.’ Jaime y Los Chamacos also received Latin Grammy Award nominations for 1996’s ‘No Se Cansa,’ as well as one for 1997’s ‘En Vivo Puro Party.’ among other Grammy considerations. The group also won several other Latin awards. The band was inducted into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame in 2017 in Alice, Texas. Jaime himself was inducted into the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and Museum in July 2023 in San Benito, Texas. Now fast forward to May of 2024 and we still see Jaime doing what is in his heart, his music. That is why his solo album is part of his “taking back his destiny” set of mind and is getting plenty of radio airplay and positive responses. With 10 tracks, “Volando Solo” serves as the perfect follow- up from Jaime’s decades as the leader of Los Chamacos to his current solo career. “Volando Solo” includes a few remakes of hits Jaime performed during his days with Los Chamacos, such as, “Pretty Baby,” “Tu Prieto,” and “Mala.” Jaime’s unique accordion skills really stand out on this new album. His voice, deeper now than from the higher- pitched voice of his youth, adds a richness to the songs, and his band completes the successful formula. Now as part of NextGen Latinx Records this album is ensured to reach audiences far and wide. The record label has partnered with the newly formed TejaDisc Distribution company to serve as the exclusive distributor for their catalog. This collaboration aims to amplify the reach of NextGen Latinx Records’ growing roster of artists. “Volando Solo” is available on CD at jaimedeanda.com and your favorite record shop.
